NICO GONZALEZ somehow failed to score during Argentina’s clash with Costa Rica last night.

The reigning world champions took on the Central Americans in Los Angeles.

With Lionel Messi absent, Fiorentina winger Gonzalez was given an opportunity to shine.

The 25-year-old replaced Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez with eight minutes remaining and his team already leading 3-1.

After being played through down the left channel in the 90th minute, Gonzalez flicked the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Rather than welly the ball into the back of the net with the goal at his mercy, he allowed it to trickle towards the line.

As he began to wheel off in celebration, a Costa Rican defender was able to recover back to clear the ball off the line.

Gonzalez’s face was subsequently a picture of horror and shock, as he clearly couldn’t believe that he hadn’t added his name to the scoresheet.

Luckily for him the miss was inconsequential, with Argentina winning the friendly 3-1 anyway.

Having gone in at half-time trailing by a goal, efforts by Angel Di Maria, Alexis Mac Allister and Lautaro Martinez turned things around.

While the result was not affected, fans online were not forgiving of Gonzalez’s error.

While a second wrote: “Still can’t believe what Nico Gonzalez did here.”

A third commented: “He thought he had already scored, this would be criminal in a crucial game.”

And another added: “Ohh boy.”
