Oleksandr Usyk slapped with boxing suspension after epic win over Tyson Fury as he is left battered and bruised

OLEKSANDR USYK showed off his battle scars following his hard-fought victory over Tyson Fury – which has now resulted in a medical suspension.

Usyk was crowned the heavyweight division’s first four-belt undisputed champion after the 12-round thriller.

There was speculation the Ukrainian had suffered a broken jaw during the epic bout – something Fury fuelled – but his team shot down the rumours.

Usyk, 37, has now shown off the state of his injuries, revealing his battered hands, cut face and swollen eyes.

So it is no wonder the British Boxing Board of Control handed him a suspension until June 2, according to BoxRec.

Fury, 35, fell to the first defeat of his career but has the chance to avenge it with a rematch clause in his contract.

And his promoter Frank Warren has confirmed the dethroned Gypsy King intends to invoke the stipulation.

Warren told Press Association: “There will be a rematch. I think it will be better than the original fight.

“They both know each other, they’ve shared the ring and they’ll be looking to use what they’ve gained from the fight as an advantage to beat their opponent.”

The rematch is being eyed for October back in Saudi Arabia.

For all the love for resurgent AJ… these two are head, shoulders and fists ahead of everyone else

OLEKSANDR USYK is the deserved undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, writes Wally Downes Jr

A great biggun doesn’t always beat a great littleun, not when David has the weight of a besieged nation on his shoulders and is able to swing each compatriot into every punch.

Usyk did what Usyk does, he moved magnificently, he counter punched and he outworked his taller and heavier opponent.

He somehow manages to use every physical disadvantage to his favour.

But what the hell is Fury doing getting up in round nine?

Why is a father-of-eight with £300million in the bank, three best-selling books and a Netflix series going to the well like?

Britain is not fighting back Putin’s army, Morecambe is not occupied.

So when the 35-year-old’s senses are scrambled, when the canvas is calling him, when he is so desperate not to be felled he is willing to bounce around all the ropes like a drunk, when he eventually has to collapse into a corner, why doesn’t he just stay down?

He has earned the right to surrender as well as his millions.

The sheer courage and guts and bloody mindedness it takes to climb off that deck, with a broken nose and a crumbling ego is not comprehensible to us mortals.

Fury said he felt he won the fight but was too dignified to call robbery or corruption, no doubt his dad will taint that decency by the time you’ve read this.

The rematch will be superb.

Because for all the love we have for a resurgent Anthony Joshua – who was ringside for that iconic event – these two polar opposite men are head, shoulders, fists, hearts and brains ahead of everyone else.

There is the top two, then there is a void and then there is the rest.

And Warren added: “Fury wants to win and he’s got to win. He’s only asking for the rematch because he thinks he can win.

“He believes in himself and it would cement his legacy. Everyone out there thinks Usyk is the best out there so let’s see what Tyson does.

Oleksandr Usyk did NOT suffer fractured jaw during win over Tyson Fury as full extent of injury revealed by promoter

“He rang me and he said he wants the rematch so here we are.”

Fury’s team had suggested Usyk had broken his jaw but Warren has since confirmed it was a tooth injury.

He said on talkSPORT: “He had stitches in his eye, he was banged up, they thought his jaw was broken but in fact it was an impacted [tooth] implant that caused him a lot of pain.”
