However, face-to-face talks are yet to be held between him and chairman Daniel Levy.
Steidten joined Leverkusen as chief scout in 2019, but was promoted to the role of sporting director last July.
In his role he was responsible for bringing in a number of young exciting talents, namely Jeremie Frimpong, Piero Hincapie and Edmond Tapsoba.

His time at the club also saw the appointment of Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with Tottenham’s vacant managerial job.
This has inevitably sparked rumours of the pair reuniting in England.
Steidten is not the only person linked with the position, with Spurs also reportedly considering Roma’s Tiago Pinto and Brentford’s Lee Dykes.
Whoever comes into the position will report to new chief football officer Scott Munn, who will effectively become Levy’s No2 after his gardening leave from City Football Group ends.
