Tottenham vs Liverpool: Postecoglou and Klopp face off in explosive battle of undefeated sides – stream, TV, team news

Spurs drew with Arsenal last weekend as they put in a brilliant performance at the Emirates to fight back from a goal down on two occasions.

Tottenham will be hoping they can finish back in the top four spots this season and look a revitalised side under Ange Postecoglou.

Liverpool also look back to their best and will be aiming to mount a title challenge once again.

But they’ll need a win away at Spurs to keep up with Manchester City, who take on Wolves on Saturday.

Premier League

The advantage is certainly with Liverpool, who are unbeaten in their last TWELVE against Spurs.

Nine of those have been wins.

And Tottenham’s last victory against Liverpool came in October 2017 – six years ago

The question is, can they end their awful run of form this time round?

What is their form like?

Spurs are unbeaten in the league, having won four of their opening six matches.

They have notched up impressive wins over the likes of Man United and Burnley.

But Tottenham have shown they can be vulnerable after being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Fulham in the third round.

As for Liverpool, they too are yet to lose a league game.

The Reds have also got off to winning starts in the Carabao and Europa League.

They have also scored three goals in each of their last five games, making them a dangerous attacking opponent.

What is the team news?

James Maddison is set to be fit for the game despite tweaking his ankle against Arsenal.

But Brennan Johnson is likely to miss the game after seemingly pulling his hamstring and hobbling off against the Gunners.

It means Richarlison and Manor Solomon are pushing for starts, with Ivan Perisic also ruled out injured with an ACL problem.

As for Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold could return to the fold after training in midweek following his hamstring injury.

Thiago is still recovering after having hip surgery at the end of the 2022/23 season.

And Klopp will have to choose between Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo to lead his line.

Who are the star men?

James Maddison will look to pull the strings for Spurs on Saturday.

He is expected to be fit after recovering from an ankle problem and will be a goal and assist threat throughout the game.

The stats of the key men

As for Liverpool, Mo Salah continues to be their danger man.

He has been busy scoring and assisting this term, and will hope to contribute a goal for another successive game.

What have the managers said?

Ange Postecoglou: “I thought performance-wise [vs Arsenal] we had to show a bit of everything we’ve got. I thought we showed real courage and bravery just to keep playing our football. We certainly pressed aggressively.

“That’s four away games we’ve had in difficult venues. We’ve gone behind at three of them but had a brilliant response.

“This side is growing. In terms of our football, we’re still at the beginning but I’m so impressed with the character we’re showing, particularly as a group.

“It’s just further evidence that we’re having an encouraging start. We’re only six games into building our side here.”

Jurgen Klopp: “We have to really stay positive and not really chasing the game, just playing the game [against Leicester] – and that’s what the boys did.

“Minute by minute, we grew into that game and it was a top performance, to be honest.

“We kept going and improved during the game as a team clearly but individually as well, a lot of performances stepped up and here we are, and I like that a lot.

“Since the first minute of training, it was pretty impressive [from Dominik Szboszlai]. He’s a top bloke, really top guy. Easy step into the team dressing room-wise and stuff like this.

“A very naturally confident boy and that helps and a super-hard worker and that’s what you see.”

SunSport’s prediction

This one is too close to call.

Both sides have had an extraordinary start to the season.

Spurs showed their credentials with a great performance in the draw with Arsenal.

While Liverpool always look good for goals despite a shaky defence.
