Danjuma was expected to sign for Everton, but Tottenham swooped in to hijack the deal in the final moments.

The Toffees, who sacked Frank Lampard on Monday after eight defeats in nine, thought they had clinched the loan signing from Villarreal.

Danjuma, 25, had already had a medical on Merseyside at the weekend.

However, with the paperwork yet to be signed off, Spurs sneaked in at the 11th hour.

Danjuma travelled down on Tuesday to have his Tottenham medical.

Tottenham released a statement confirming the signing saying: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance.”

Last season Danjuma was a regular starter with the Yellow Submarine in their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

He netted six goals in 11 appearances in Europe while also scoring a further ten goals in 23 La Liga matches.

This season he has already notched six goals in 17 matches in all competitions.

Tottenham’s transfer business is not over, though as they are also confident of signing Sporting Lisbon full-back Pedro Porro.

SunSport understands that following talks between both clubs over the past two days, an agreement is close to being reached to meet that figure this window.

The 23-year-old has a £40million release clause in his contract with the Portuguese side.
