The ex-Spurs midfielder will be joined by by regular Formula E presenter Nicki Shields as well as Radzi Chinyanganya as part of a new-look team.

Jenas said he has developed a love affair with the sport since retiring from football.

On landing the role, Jenas said: “Since retiring from football I never thought I would find a sport that I loved as much but Formula E is a sport like nothing else.

“I couldn’t be more excited to take on this incredible presenting role and travel the world with such amazing teams.

“To get in front of the camera and share that energy and action with viewers is a whole new challenge and adrenaline rush for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Speaking to The Mirror about his new role, he says that he has been desperate to tell people about the role for weeks – but had to keep it under wraps.

He said: “I can’t tell you how glad I am that it’s finally out. It’s one of those things I’ve known about for a little while now and I’m just desperate to talk about it, really.”

While some might feel he is a left-field choice for the role, Jenas will be replacing Vernon Kay – who wasn’t known for his motor racing expertise either.

Jenas admits that he’s not an expert on the sport yet but carries an enthusiasm for the sport.

He said: “I’ve been interested in motorsport for about seven or eight years now and I’ve been watching a lot of Formula 1.

“Formula E started a couple of years before that so, naturally, you kind of keep an eye on it and see what’s going on.”
