REAL MADRID’S new-look stadium has been slammed for its weird design.
The iconic Santiago Bernabeu has been undergoing a facelift since 2019, with full completion scheduled in the coming weeks.

The stadium has been functional for a number of months but is set for its grand re-opening in December.
However, despite the Spanish giants investing a huge amount of money into the project, not everyone is pleased.
There has been particularly acute criticism aimed at the stadium’s reinforced slats.
Mundo Deportivo explain that gaps can be seen between the slats which detract from the aesthetics of the ground and provide a different view from the one that was promised.

However, there is a purposeful design behind them.
YouTube channel Real Madrid Fans explained the practical reason behind them.
They said the reason for the gaps was to allow natural light to pass through with a planned panoramic terrace on the West Side of the stadium in mind.
The idea is for the area to house a leisure and restaurant zone.

Therefore, despite criticism of its look, there is no planned restructuring or rectification of the design.
The Bernabeu’s renovations were due to be completed last year but ran over.
Madrid played their first game at the spruced up venue in September, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side running out 2-1 victors thanks to a stoppage time winner from Jude Bellingham.
In October club chiefs asked members to grant an additional £322m of loan to finance the developments.
This was “virtually unanimously” approved according to a Real Madrid statement last week, with 96.1 per cent of votes going in favour.
The renovations have seen a retractable roof added and will see its capacity raised from 81,000 to 85,000.
