Steven Gerrard ‘on Leeds shortlist to become new manager’ after Jesse Marsch was sacked for miserable run

STEVEN GERRARD is reportedly on Leeds’ shortlist to become the new manager after Jesse Marsch was sacked for a miserable run.

American Marsch was sacked after overseeing a seven-game winless run in the Premier League which ended with a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Leeds’ dreadful form has left them 17th in the table, above the relegation zone only by virtue of goal difference.

And according to TottoMercatoWeb, ex-Aston Villa manager, Gerrard, is on the shortlist to take the post at Elland Road.

Liverpool and England great Gerrard was sacked by Villa last October and replaced by serial Europa League winner, Unai Emery.

Director Victor Orta was a great admirer of the current coach of West Bromwich Albion, Carlos Corberan.

However, West Brom tied their playoff-chasing manager down to a new deal, which could give Gerrard a free run at the job.

Gerrard was previously linked with the Poland post – however the job was handed to ex-Portugal coach Fernando Santos.

Leeds are also keen on Celtic coach Ante Postecoglu.

Postecoglu has his team sat top of the SPFL, with rivals Rangers lagging nine points behind.

Managerless Leeds are taking on rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.

United will then travel to Elland Road on Sunday.

Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will coach the team until a replacement for Marsch is found.
