TED Lasso star Kola Bokinni thinks Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham FC after watching the hit comedy.
The Apple+ series follows an American college football coach who is hired to manage fictional English Premier League team AFC Richmond.
While in real life Ryan Reynolds and actor Rob McElhenney’s took over Wrexham AFC – which has been chronicled in TV series Welcome To Wrexham.
They helped guide the team to promotion to the English Football League with a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood in the National League last weekend.
Kola – who plays team captain Isaac on the show – is the not first to notice the similarities and he was quizzed about it as he joined Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie this week.

“There are many scenarios that you could say… but we’re going to claim it, of course definitely, yes, 100 percent we influenced Ryan Reynolds [laughs]! I’m joking, that’s something only Ryan knows.”
Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted, has also shared his feelings on it, telling Lorraine Kelly: “I used to say in the pitch about football or soccer not being as big in the States or whatever but this is as much about football as ‘Rocky’ is about boxing.
“Good timing with Ryan – not bad, right? It’s great! It’s nice to have people so enthusiastic about having American ownership. I don’t know if it’s wildly ubiquitous, but it certainly has helped Wrexham out!”
