Two knee injuries, a thigh problem and a hamstring issue stopped him from from seeing out the season.
And shortly after he was named Chelsea captain at the start of this season, James suffered a torn hamstring against Liverpool on the opening day.
He returned in October, but now he is set for another several months on the sidelines in a huge blow to Maurico Pochettino’s side.
In the England star’s absence, Malo Gusto is expected to step in.
Taking to Instagram following the confirmation of his latest setback, James simply wrote: “Devastated π.”
