Real Madrid legend Marcelo completes transfer to former club just days after having Olympiacos contract ripped up


MARCELO has rejoined Brazilian club Fluminense.

The former Real Madrid star has signed a contract that will run until December 2024, with an option to extend for a further year.

The club announced the arrival of the veteran defender on Twitter.

Fluminense posted a video of the player’s highlights from when he was at the club in his youth.

The video was accompanied by the caption: “Your home is and always will be Fluminense, Marcelo.”

The post was followed up by another tweet, saying, “Dude, it’s really true. O Marcelo it’s from Fluminense again.”

Speaking about the return to his boyhood club, Marcelo told club media: “It’s even difficult to express the meaning that this moment represents for me.

“I’ve been dreaming of returning to my origins for many years, to the team that trained me and taught me what I know about football.”

The 34-year-old spent two years in the senior squad of Fluminense between 2005 and 2007.

He left the club for Real Madrid and spent 15 incredibly successful seasons with the club.

While at Los Blancos, Marcelo won six LaLigas, five Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys, four Club World Cups, five Spanish Super Cups, and three UEFA Super Cups.

He left the club in 2022 after his contract expired and joined Greek giants Olympiacos.

However, after only playing five league games, his contract was mutually terminated paving the way for his return to Fluminense.
