United originally announced that he signed a four-year contract, but his current deal actually expires in June, reports claim.

According to The Athletic, Varane penned a three-year deal with the option of a one-year extension after arriving at Old Trafford.

That means he could become a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

With his contract set to run down, the defender could open talks with foreign clubs in January ahead of a potential transfer.

Varane has slipped down the pecking order at Man Utd in recent months.

The 30-year-old has been limited to 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Erik ten Hag is reportedly open to letting him leave.

Anthony Martial is also set to leave Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of the season.
