THE PREMIER LEAGUE’S Independent Key Match Incidents Panel have reportedly ruled that Diogo Jota should not have been sent off during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.
Jota was shown a red card for two yellow card offences on Destiny Udogie in the space of just over a minute.
His first yellow was shown for clipping Udogie’s heels, while a second was shown for a sliding tackle from behind on the Italian.
ESPN report that they have access to the panel’s findings and it is apparently the second yellow card that was deemed not worthy of being given.
The report says: “The majority deemed the decision as incorrect as they felt it did not meet the threshold for a yellow card,” with the five members voting 3-2 against a booking.
The panel consists of three former players and/or coaches as well as a representative from the Premier League and PGMOL.

Many at the time did not dispute Jota’s second yellow, given the sliding tackle was made from behind and the Portuguese star was already booked.
Jota’s first yellow for clipping Udogie was seen as far more controversial but panel members do not make reports on first yellow card offences.
The highly controversial game also saw Curtis Jones sent off in the 24th minute after the intervention of VAR.
Liverpool appealed the straight red but had their case dismissed by the FA.

Jurgen Klopp was also enraged by Luis Diaz’s goal being chalked off for offside in the first half and has since gone on to suggest that the game should be replayed because of it.
Diaz’s goal was onside but a VAR cock-up saw Darren England wrongly tell the referee that the decision to rule the goal offside was correct.
Klopp said ahead of his side’s Europa league clash with Union Saint-Gilloise: “I say this not as manager of Liverpool but as a football person – I think the only outcome should be a replay. Probably will not happen.”
SunSport understands the Premier League are not entertaining the prospect of a replay.
