FOOTBALL fans mocked Ajax star Steven Berghuis after he produced one of the “worst misses ever seen”… only for the offside flag to spare his blushes.
The Netherlands international, 31, found himself five yards out with an open goal after receiving a pass across the box.
But as the forward attempted to control the ball, he let it squirm under his left foot and the chance went begging.
Fortunately for Berghuis, who spent the 2015/16 season with Premier League side Watford, the flag did go up for offside.
However, that did not stop those on social media from mocking his blunder.
One said: “Berghuis with one of the worst misses you’ll ever seen 🙈🙈.”

Another added: “Hurts to watch.”
A third replied: “My two-year-old baby would have scored this 😭.”
While a fourth responded: “Why does he wanna have a touch? 😭😭😭.”
Ajax led PEC Zwolle 2-1 at the time of Berghuis’ embarrassing gaffe.

But they ended up relinquishing their lead as Lennart Thy netted his second of the game in the 89th minute to salvage a point for the visitors.
The result leaves Ajax fifth in the Eredivise, 23 points adrift of PSV Eindhoven – who are yet to drop a single point this season.
They have also dropped down to the Europa Conference League after finishing third in their Europa League group behind Brighton and Marseille.
