Peter Schmeichel slams ‘lucky’ Antony for ‘crazy’ reaction during Brighton defeat and urges Man Utd star to ‘behave’

PETER SCHMEICHEL has slammed Antony after he lashed out at Alexis Mac Allister during Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton.

The Argentine midfielder got his own back as he fired home a penalty deep in stoppage time to give the Seagulls’ revenge for last month’s FA Cup defeat to the Red Devils.

The result also boosted Brighton’s chances of claiming European football next season while fourth-placed United are left looking over their shoulders at old foes Liverpool.

About 20 minutes before the penalty, there was a furious flashpoint as Antony lost his head.

The Brazilian was aggrieved not to receive a free-kick and when the ball came back in his direction a few seconds later, he reacted badly.

The frustrated 23-year-old whacked a leg at World Cup winner Mac Allister in a late challenge.

Brighton reacted furiously and Antony soon found himself squaring up to Lewis Dunk.

Other players got involved to calm things down and the winger was fortunate to only get a yellow card with many fans believing he deserved a more harsh punishment.

Former United keeper Schmeichel was not impressed.

He told Premier League Productions: “I don’t like the reaction, this is crazy and he is a lucky, lucky boy staying on the pitch because that’s a red card, there’s no doubt about it.

“You cannot do that. And then he reacts like this. You cannot do that as a Man Utd player you have to behave yourself. This is revenge you don’t do that, you cannot do that in a game of football.

“[Erik] Ten Hag is very disappointed and that even more so than the game being lost with one of his players reacting like that.”

Both sides had chances to win the game but it appeared like the game at the Amex was set to finish goalless, just like in the FA Cup.

But then Luke Shaw bizarrely committed handball late in the game in an offence that was caught by VAR.

Mac Allister converted to spark wild scenes in the stadium and, later, in the Brighton dressing groom.
