Newcastle blow in hopes of recalling wonderkid Yankuba Minteh to ease injury crisis as details of loan transfer emerge

NEWCASTLE have suffered a blow to their hopes of recalling wonderkid Yankuba Minteh from his loan at Feyenoord.

Eddie Howe had hinted last week at bringing the teenager back to the club to ease their injury crisis.

However, the full details of his loan transfer have now emerged and it is bad news for the Magpies.

According to Voetbal International, Newcastle are unable to simply recall Minteh early from his loan.

Both the player and Feyenoord must agree to the recall in order for Minteh to return before the end of the season.

His fine form in the Eredivisie so far this season suggests the Dutch champions may not be willing to part ways with him ahead of schedule.

Minteh has scored three goals and provided an assist in nine league matches this term.

The winger would provide a boost to Howe’s squad as he battles an injury crisis at St. James’ Park.

Eight players are currently sidelined with injury, including wingers Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.

Meanwhile, Sandro Tonali is also banned until next August.

Howe had suggested he may recall Minteh during his pre-match press conference before Saturday’s loss to Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old now looks set to stay in the Netherlands for the rest of the season.

Newcastle completed a £7million move for the Gambia international in the summer, with Minteh signing a five-year deal upon arriving from Odense.

He was immediately sent out on a season-long loan to Feyenoord, where he has starred in the Champions League.

The youngster has missed their last five matches with a hamstring injury, though, but could return after the international break.
