The first half stats show there wasn’t much between the sides at the break.

Lewis Miley made the goal with a delightful little pass through.
Raheem Sterling won and then converted a free kick 10 minutes later to level the scores.
It was a peach of a finish from the winger who continues his fine start to the season.
Trippier hit the bar with his own free kick in a competitive first half.

Almiron, Miley and Trippier all involved before Joelinton receives it 30 yards from goal.
He missed from seven yards earlier so no idea why he thinks he’ll score from 30 yards on his left foot. His effort flies 20 yards over the bar.

Livramento feeds Gordon and drives 30 yards before being tugged back 25 yards from goal.
It’s on the left of centre but probably just within Trippier’s range.
Ugochukwu shown a yellow card for that foul.

39. Sterling sent clear again down the left and his every touch still being booed by the home fans.
He settles for a corner off Trippier as another counter attack looked to be effective.
Lascelles heads Palmer’s delivery clear.

36. Nick Pope with a calamitous mistake when trying to pass out and finds Gallagher on the edge of the box.
He has space to take a touch and move inside on his left foot before an abysmal finish from 12 yards sees the ball trickle behind for a goal kick. Poor all round!

35. Palmer again the orchestrator as he drives through midfield and finds Sterling on the corner of the box on the left.
He makes the overlapping run as Sterling faces up to Trippier, but the winger’s pass back is overhit and away for a goal kick.

32. Badiashile wins the header from the corner but Pope collects comfortably under his own crossbar.

31. Good play from Palmer and James who play a one-two 25 yards from goal to get the skipper clear down the right.
He lays the ball into Enzo’s path 20 yards from goal and he whips an effort at goal which Pope parries behind at full stretch!

Schar’s ball over the top gets Trippier in behind but he can’t get his cross right.
Almiron then swings an inswinging ball in from the right which bounces through the six-yard box and behind for a goal kick. Isak couldn’t quite reach it.

26. Trippier’s ball in finds Joelinton all alone seven yards out and he heads it wide!
He missed a sitter against Dortmund just a couple of weeks ago with his head when he should have scored – somehow this was worse.
He loses Gallagher and tries to guide it into the net instead of just hitting the target. Incredible

25. Thiago Silva with an attempted bit of skill down by his own corner flag.
Absolutely no idea how he does it, but he nutmegs himself and falls over – conceding the corner. It’ll be one to look out for later, and will be shown if Newcastle score from it!

Sterling goes over the wall and into the top corner from 22 yards – Pope didn’t move.

Sterling sent free by Jackson and he only has Schar to beat. Trippier gets back and comes together with Sterling, who goes down under very little contact.
Trippier is shown a yellow card for that and it’s a big opportunity.

Gordon actually slipped moving into space. He does actually manage to get back to his feet.
As he does so, Joelinton goes to ground holding his hamstring.

19. Chelsea manage to get their foot on the ball for a short period after that constant pressure from the hosts.
Sterling loses out to Trippier and Newcastle break forward.
Worrying scenes though as Anthony Gordon goes down off the ball holding his groin. Surely not another one.

17. Trippier’s ball in is headed clear by Cucurella but Newcastle keep the pressure on.
Eventually Miley finds himself with room on the edge and strikes a volley at goal, which hits his own captain.
More pressure on the ball sees them win a throw-in high up.
