Thousands of eager Getafe fans turned out on a warm evening to welcome Greenwood and fellow new signings Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez.

The forward has since taken to social media to describe his Getafe presentation as an “amazing first day” among a montage of images.

Greenwood’s post has already racked up nearly 200,000 likes after being provided with a pathway back to football by the La Liga side.

The new signing waved to the crowd and kicked a signed football into the stand during the presentation.

And the striker told the crowd that he is “happy to be here” for the season ahead.

Greenwood added: “I have been training for four or five months now so I am getting up to speed.

“I have been training with my team-mates and I feel quite good.

“We take one game at a time, I know the next home game is coming up soon, we are going to try and win it and do our best.”

Greenwood’s girlfriend was also confirmed to have arrived in Spain ahead of his official unveiling.

Harriet Robson, who has a baby with the footballer, was seen smiling in the sunshine in a photo shared on her Instagram.

Earlier on Tuesday, Getafe were slammed as “tone deaf” with the striker filmed signing autographs and greeting fans ahead of his launch.

Greenwood was seen posing for snaps with kids and signing their shirts and footballs in a clip which Getafe posted on Twitter.

One fan had already got his hands on a replica of Greenwood’s number 12 shirt, which he wore back-to-front as he hugged the striker.

But the club’s enthusiastic welcome for Greenwood has been widely slammed on social media.

Popular account Out of Context Football Manager tweeted: “Getafe have to be the most tone deaf club I’ve ever seen in my life. Read the room.”

Greenwood trained for the first time with his new club Getafe today – more than 18 months since his last game for Manchester United.

It is highly unlikely that Greenwood is match fit – and the snaps of him training suggest he is focusing on strength and conditioning.

The Spanish club announced the deal just minutes before the summer transfer window deadline arrived on Friday.

United will receive no loan fee and will cover the majority of his £75,000-a-week wage during his time in Spain.

A club statement added: “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

But the young forward may not make his debut until September 17, when Getafe host Osasuna.

It comes after United announced that Greenwood had “mutually agreed” to leave the club following an internal probe into his arrest.

He was arrested in October last year but all charges were dropped in February by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Greenwood still has two years left to run with the option of a further 12 months had the club wanted to take it up.

Failing to offload him would have left the club facing a payment of nearly £8million.
