Man Utd’s unrecognisable XI last time they were in Carabao Cup final – with only FOUR players from squad still at club

MANCHESTER UNITED have only four players remaining at the club from their 2017 Carabao Cup winning team.

Jose Mourinho’s team has been transformed in the last six years and David De Gea could be the only player to feature in the starting XI of both finals.

The Spaniard has been ever present for the Red Devils since signing in 2011 and helped United to a 3-2 win over Southampton in 2017.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice including the winning goal, with Jesse Lingard also getting on the scoresheet.

Lingard left last summer along with Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, who also started against the Saints.

The only surviving players from the squad who could start on Sunday alongside De Gea are Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who appeared as a substitute in 2017.

Eric Bailly, who started in that win, is still at the club but out on loan at Marseille.

He was accompanied in central defence by the long-departed Chris Smalling, with Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo featuring at full-back.

Ander Herrera was the other player to feature that day with Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini being brought off the bench.

Also among the substitutes were Wayne Rooney, Daley Blind, Ashley Young and goalkeeper Sergio Romero, none of whom featured.

United also won the Europa League in 2017 and Erik ten Hag could repeat the cup double this season after beating Barcelona on Thursday to progress to the next round.

Real Betis are next up for United, who have just two days to prepare for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
