MANCHESTER UNITED’S hopes of signing Yann Sommer appear all-but over with the goalkeeper set to sign for Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils want to sign a goalkeeper with David de Gea’s Old Trafford future in doubt.
They’ve already brought in Jack Butland this window, but he’s only arrived on loan to provide cover for De Gea.
And they’re still looking for a potential replacement for the Spaniard.
Ahead of January, United were targeting a move for Sommer, who’s entered the final year of his Borussia Monchengladbach contract, while they’re also being linked with Brentford man David Raya.
Sommer would have been able to sign a pre-contract at Old Trafford this month.

But he’s now on the verge of signing for Bayern Munich.
According to SPORT1, the Switzerland international has agreed a deal with the Bundesliga leaders.
And he’s undergoing his medical in Munich today ahead of penning a contract until 2025.
Sommer will cost the German giants £7m, but the fee could rise to more than £8m if Bayern win the Champions League.

His imminent departure will see him end a nine-year stay with Monchengladbach, which has seen him make more than 300 appearances.
The 33-year-old’s final outing for the club looks to have been the German Cup defeat at Darmstadt 98 in October with an ankle problem keeping him out since – although he did play for Switzerland at the World Cup.
