Eddie Nketiah levelled with a close-range header, before Bukayo Saka rifled a wonderful effort into the bottom corner eight minutes into the second half.

Man Utd then levelled things up once more before the hour mark as Lisandro Martinez scooped in an unconventional header.

Erik ten Hag’s men nearly held out for a point but Arsenal’s relentless pressure paid off with Nketiah’s late winner.

Here is how SunSport’s Charlie Wyett saw the performances of the Man Utd players at the Emirates.

David De Gea – 6

Exposed for the first goal and maybe, had he not taken a small step to the left, would have kept out Saka’s strike.

Good late stop from Nketiah.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

Enjoying a renaissance in the United team but lost Nketiah for the equaliser.

Equally, frustrated Arsenal with some sensible, no-nonsense defending.

Raphael Varane – 7

Some important blocks, particularly in the first half for United.

Lisandro Martinez – 7

Terrific game. Stunning tackle to deny Xhaka a goal-scoring opportunity and then was in the right place to score a header.

May only be 5ft 9ins but a big signing.

Luke Shaw – 7

Dispossessed Saka and fed Rashford the ball for the goal.

His challenges on Saka annoyed Mikel Arteta so much the Arsenal manager got cautioned for his moaning.

Christian Eriksen – 6

Could have done much better in closing down Saka for the second. No wonder he threw his arms up in the air when the ball whizzed past De Gea.

Learnt from the mistake and deflected a Saka shot on to the post having already delivered the corner for United’s second.

Scott McTominay – 6

A surprise starter in midfield. Forced a decent save from Ramsdale at 1-1 and did okay although sometimes too slow.

Antony – 6

Always a threat on the counter attack for United although Arsenal fans took a dislike to him as they felt he dived.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Reckons he should have been awarded a penalty but he ran into Aaron Ramsdale.

Played a part in Rashford’s opening goal.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Brilliant goal, out of nowhere, to put United ahead.

Denied a second by Ramsdale.

Wout Weghorst – 6

Did not have any sniff of goal but still worked hard and he attempted to pull players out of position when United moved forward.

A few nice touches but needs to get a lot more involved.
