MANCHESTER UNITED limped out of the Champions League on a night of familiar problems for boss Erik ten Hag.
Harry Kane brilliantly teed up Kingsley Coman’s Bayern Munich winner on 70 minutes as the Red Devils finished bottom of their group.
United needed to beat the German champions and hope Copenhagen drew with Galatasaray.
But the Red Devils never did enough to make their side of the bargain look realistic.
And once more Ten Hag’s men lacked creativity.
Again too they suffered injury problems, losing England defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw just before the break.

But Copenhagen went through with a 1-0 win in the other Group A match – while United’s days as a European superpower look further in the past than ever as their far-fetched dream petered out.
Here’s how United rated, player by player, in their tame old Trafford exit.
Andre Onana – 5
No chance with Coman’s 70th-minute strike after a quiet night against a Bayern side only in third gear.

Diogo Dalot – 6
Right-back put in a decent shift but could never fully commit in attack because Antony was so poor in front of him.

Harry Maguire – 6
Limped off with groin problems to the standing ovation that showed how times have changed for the England defender.
Raphael Varane – 7
Hadn’t started since Copenhagen in October but if he’s got a problem with Erik ten Hag it didn’t show.
Luke Shaw – 6
Excellent covering, determined tackling and passing – had a good thing going with Garnacho up ahead but forced off at the break.
Scott McTominay – 5
Put in plenty of hard yards but only because he was given the runaround by more sophisticated opponents.
Sofyan Amrabat – 7
The Moroccan’s best performance in a United shirt and surely earning a place for Sunday’s Anfield showdown.
Bruno Fernandes – 4
Frustrating, enigmatic – the usual package from the captain who thinks he is so much better than he really is.
Antony – 3
Again performed like a no-trick pony and of all of United’s under-performers, he’s the first who should be dumped in January.
Alejandro Garnacho – 8
Scared the pants off the Bayern defenders thanks to fierce left-flank raids – gave his side hope for a while.

Ran around in ever-decreasing circles but spent almost the whole night stranded on his own up front.
