Man Utd offered Benfica star Goncalo Ramos as cheaper Harry Kane alternative to solve striker dilemma

MANCHESTER UNITED are being offered the chance to land £80million-rated Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.

SunSport also understands that Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is hopeful Tottenham can create a bidding war – should Harry Kane depart this summer.

United boss Erik ten Hag is on the lookout for more firepower next season to give Marcus Rashford – who scored a total of 30 goals last year – some competition.

The Red Devil’s chances of landing Kane, 30, from Spurs are dead in the water, with chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to do business for less than £100m.

A client of Mendes, 21-year-old Ramos could fit the bill at Old Trafford instead, having netted 25 times for club and country this term.

Ramos also made his name at the Qatar World Cup for Portugal, bagging a hat-trick against Switzerland in the Last 16 having replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up.

However, Benfica will not accept anything less than £80m – following on from selling Darwin Nunez to Liverpool last summer for £85m.

Mendes is working hard to get his player a Premier League switch, with United the priority, but the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa and Tottenham have also been approached.

Spurs could be in the market for a striker should Kane depart, yet this appears unlikely right now – with Real Madrid the only potential destination.

Real’s £115m splash-out on England starlet Jude Bellingham will limit their spending power for the rest of this window, thus being priced out of a move for the England captain.

New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for Kane to stay and continue his successful partnership with Son Heung-min, with Richarlison also in the ranks up top.

The star striker amassed a total of 32 goals and five assists in 49 appearances last season.

If the forward doesn’t pen a new contract and stays put at Tottenham then he will be free to sign with an overseas club for free in January.
