Most Liverpool players perform the ritual before every game but it is unusual for away players to do the same.

It is particularly strange for a player from a rival club to pay tribute in such a manner, which is why United fans are raging with Weghorst.

One supporter claimed the striker’s attitude meant United had “lost the game before it even started”.

Another fan fumed: “Sack him – NOW!!”

And he shared his admiration for the club in an interview with DAZN in 2020, saying: “I always found Liverpool very special. I still get goosebumps from ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.”
