Man Utd ‘consider France star as possible Casemiro transfer replacement’ in hint at new sporting director’s identity

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly considering a move for Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

Rumours have been swirling around the future of Casemiro at Old Trafford given his drop off in form this term and Fofana could be a potential replacement for the Brazilian.

Man Utd haven’t had the same Casemiro this season as they did last year with the 31-year-old struggling to impress for Erik ten Hag so far.

And Fabrizio Romano reported on Caught Offside that his future at the club will be up for discussion in the coming months.

The transfer guru also revealed that the Red Devils have an interest in Fofana as an option in the centre of midfield.

The Manchester giants are said to have considered him as a back up plan this summer before signing their number one target Sofyan Amrabat.

Fofana has been important for Monaco over the last two seasons and managed to break into the French national team last year as a result of his performances.

He’s managed three assists in Ligue 1 already this term which is more than he achieved in the entirety of the 22/23 campaign.

And the potential transfer to Man Utd could also hint at what the Premier League club’s plans are going forward when it comes to their sporting director.

United are currently searching for a new face in that position with big changes expected at Old Trafford amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover.

The 20-time English champions have reportedly been eyeing up former Tottenham and Southampton chief Paul Mitchell.

Mitchell is the also previous sporting director at Monaco and left his position earlier this month.

Murmurs of Man Utd eyeing Monaco players could suggest they might come close to closing a deal for the Englishman.

But they will face competition, with Mitchell highly rated and Saudi Pro League clubs also linked with a move to bring him in.
