Man Utd boss Ten Hag tells Maguire he will get chance to regain place after rejecting Inter Milan loan transfer bid

ERIK TEN HAG has told Harry Maguire he will get plenty of chances to regain his first team slot after blocking Inter Milan’s bid to take him on loan.

Inter hoped to offer Maguire a route back to regular action in Serie A, but Manchester United boss Ten Hag refused to let him leave.

The centre back has started only four league games this season, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane the manager’s first choice partnership.

Yet Ten Hag told Maguire this week that he will have lots of openings over the second half of the season, as United chase silverware on four fronts.

The Dutchman has been impressed by Maguire’s attitude in training and how he has reacted to losing his place in recent weeks.

And Ten Hag has reassured him that United’s hectic fixture schedule in the second half of the season will offer more opportunities to play.

They already face playing eight games this month, with the prospect of a hectic March schedule to come if they win their Europa League play-off against Barcelona.

Inter were just one of a host of clubs to inquire about Maguire, who started all five of England’s fixtures in Qatar, but has kicked off just three of United’s since the World Cup.

The £85million ex-Leicester star came on for the final minutes as ten-man United held on to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at home on Saturday.

Ten Hag shored up his backline as the Eagles poured forward late on following a red card for Red Devils’ midfielder Casemiro.

But Maguire and Co kept them out as United went third.

Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot will be offered a treble-your-money deal to keep him at Old Trafford for another five years.

Dalot, 23, is keen to stay but is one of the lowest-paid members of the squad, on around £30,000 a week.

There have been further talks on increased terms over the past week, and United are confident he will commit until 2028, on £85,000 plus bonuses.
