Man City ‘fail with transfer offer for Argentine wonderkid Maximo Perrone’ with player desperate to play for Guardiola

MANCHESTER CITY have failed with a bid to sign Argentine wonderkid Maximo Perrone.

The Premier League champions made an offer but it failed to “seduce” Velez Sarsfield, according to the club’s president Sergio Rapisarda.

The midfielder, 20, is highly rated in Argentina and has also attracted interest from Newcastle United.

However, Rapisarda has revealed that City’s offer was not good enough for him to accept.

Velez Sarsfield, who are bottom of the table in the top tier of Argentine football, are cautious in dealing with Manchester City after the sale of Benjamin Garre back in 2016.

The Argentine club complained that the English champions were trying to persuade Garre to join before he was 16-years-old.

Rapisarda told Velez670: “I have spoken with the people of City, because we already have a precedent.

“They handle themselves that way. They were constantly persuading the boy [Garre].

“There is the clause which the players can execute. He should present a note to Agremiados, AFA and the club that is going to execute the clause.

“Yes, the player can authorise a third party to deposit the money.

“They made an offer, we were not seduced. He is a caliber player.”

However, a deal is not dead in the water, as Rapisarda did admit that Perrone “wants” to join the Citizens and play for manager Pep Guardiola, even if the club are against it.

He added: “The boy, he wants to go. The City coach called him three times, [Javier] Mascherano also persuaded him, which I don’t like.

“The boy loves the coach of that club. We are going to take the risk.

“We are trying to be the best in the transfer and with numbers that favour Velez.”
