Al-Ettifaq, the side bossed by former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, are leading the chase for the former Manchester United goalkeeper.
But if Al-Ettifaq fail to meet the Spaniard’s wage demands, other clubs are ready to pounce.
De Gea has been without a club since being released by United at the end of last season.
He earned up to £375,000 per week at Old Trafford and left because a new deal could not be agreed, with Andre Onana coming in to replace him as Erik Ten Hag’s No 1 goalkeeper.
De Gea is seeking a massive pay hike in order to follow other big names to the Middle East.
