FORMER Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani is set to be named as the new manager of Serie B side Pisa.
The 38-year-old will sign a two-year contract with the Black and Blues upon his arrival at the Arena Garibaldi, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Aquilani is yet to take charge of a club at senior level.
He was appointed as the head coach of Fiorentina’s U18’s in July 2019, but just five months later he quit his job to take up a role as assistant to the club’s first-team manager Giuseppe Iachini.
The following year he returned to the academy to take charge of the Primavera squad – Fiorentina’s U19’s and youth setup.
But he will now be given his first chance at senior management with Pisa, who finished 11th in Serie B this season.

Before turning to management, Aquilani enjoyed a 16-year playing career.
He burst onto the scene at Roma in 2002 and went on to make 149 appearances for the Serie A giants before joining Liverpool in 2009.
However, he failed to impress at Anfield, scoring just twice in 28 appearances.
Aquilani signed for Fiorentina in 2012 and spent three years in Italy before moving to Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon.
