LIONEL MESSI has issued a statement following his recent suspension by Paris Saint-Germain.

The 35-year-old was suspended by the club after an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

In the statement, the Argentine World Cup winner apologised to team-mates for his actions and explained the reasoning behind the trip to the Saudi.

Posting a video on his Instagram story he said: “I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always.

“I had this trip organized and I couldn’t cancel it. I had already cancelled it before…

“I apologize to my teammates and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me.”
