Joey Barton updates — Alex Scott breaks silence on shock rant as former Premier League player slammed by commentators

ALEX Scott has broken her silence on Joey Barton’s shock rant about female commentators.

Former Manchester City and Newcastle star Barton went into a tirade on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming women are not qualified to talk about the men’s game.

His tirade on X included saying that women commentating on men’s football was the same as him “talking about knitting or netball” – and called those who disagreed with him “eunuchs” and “fart parcels”.

In an Instagram story, Scott and an unknown colleague can be heard laughing about Barton’s comments.

  • Bianca Westwood blasts Joey Barton

Bianca Westwood took to social media to humble Joey Barton after his collection of sexist Twitter tirades.

She questioned: “Who is qualified to speak on football then? I’ve been watching football for 40 years, my first game at West Ham was before Joey was even born.

“I’ve been watching hours and hours of football. I worked behind the scenes at Sky for 10 years before I was even given a shot on camera, watching my male colleagues who maybe weren’t as good as I was, getting chances I was never given.

“I don’t really understand what we need to know, how long we need to work behind the scenes before we are allowed on camera. To be a pundit, the laws are the same. Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman can both read the game, are you saying they can’t offer an insight?

“Sounds like to me that Joey has a problem with particular pundits who haven’t done enough in the game, but how does he know? And how do we quantify that? There’s EFL players who are commentating, co-commentating on Champions League games. So what level – as far as Joey Barton is concerned – do you have to get before you can be an expert on the ‘men’s game’?”

  • Piers questions Joey’s qualifications

Joey Barton has claimed women have no right to comment on men’s football as they have no experience with it.

Speaking on TalkTV, Piers Morgan pointed out the irony in this statement as he questioned if Joey Barton has any experience in “top-level football”.

Joey Barton has zero Champions League appearances and never played in a major international competition.

He also never won a major trophy as a player or manager.

  • Who is Joey Barton’s partner Georgia McNeil?

Joey Barton and Georgia McNeil were childhood sweethearts.

Barton married longterm partner McNeil in a lavish ceremony at the Aynhoe Park country estate in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

The wedding took place on the fifth birthday of their daughter in 2019.

Though Joey is known for being outspoken on social media, he shares much less about his partner and his private life in the public domain, so there is very little information about his wife available.

  • Who is Joey Barton?

Barton is a former footballer who played for teams including Manchester City, Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers and Rangers.

Joey started his 15-year playing career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system, going on to make 150 appearances for the club.

He then moved to Newcastle in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007, before leaving for QPR in August 2011.

The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season, then making his way to Burnley for one season — helping the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League.

Barton made one appearance for England in 2007 — despite criticising some of his fellow teammates.

Joey also had a dismal six-month stint at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in 2016.

  • Fans defend women in football amid Joey Barton’s sexist rants

Fans have taken to social media to defend women’s contributions to football amid Joey Barton’s claims they have no place in the game.

One fan said: “Laura Woods, Kelly Cates, Robyn Cowen , Betty Glover, Eilidh Barbour and Kelly Somers are a few of the best in the game.

“They know their football, they understand it fully in depth and are extremely knowledgeable and informative to listen to. This tweet is so wrong Joey.”

Another added: “Who is this clown?”

  • Joey Barton’s managerial and punditry career is over due to “sexist” remarks, Sky Sports presenter claims

Sky Sports broadcasters pitched in to accuse Barton of sexism following his constant posting on Twitter.

Dougie Critchley wrote: “Remarkable decision to end your top level management career at 41 with a tweet.

    “Condescending, backwards, sexist.”

Sky Sports presenter Michelle Owen said: “Let’s hope you’re not looking for punditry work if that coaching thing doesn’t work out…”

  • Alex Scott laughs of Joey Barton’s anti-woman claims

Pundit, TV presenter and Champions League winner Alex Scott was also drawn into the saga after Barton claimed she “shouldn’t commentate on the men’s game”, claiming she was not qualified to do so.

The former England and Arsenal Women’s star laughed off Barton’s comment before an interview with a BBC colleague, with many others slamming his views.

Joey Barton has zero Champions League appearances.

  • Laura Woods hits back at Barton’s sexist rant

Laura Woods has hit back at Joey Barton after he claimed women should not be allowed to comment on men’s football.

She tweeted: “Usually avoid these conversations as I don’t like adding more oxygen. But throwing young vloggers to the wolves is wrong.

“I started my career vlogging and I’ve always got on with Joey. He also sent me a lovely good luck message for TNT in June. Does that make him a eunuch too?🤔

“Joey’s entitled to his opinion. If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters & state his case.

“These tweets only encourage a pile on for the women getting on with their jobs. Or was that the intention?”

  • Joey Barton makes bizarre claim women in football ‘compromise themselves’

Joey Barton has been branded “sexist” for a bizarre post he made on Twitter/X today.

He wrote: “The amount of times in my professional life, I’ve seen women compromise themselves in the Men’s game is ridiculous.

“I’ve actually lost cost. Female staff sending naked pictures to players.

“To having full blown affairs and costing people marriages. You would have had to experience it to believe it. It happens all the time.

“I think it is very dangerous to have Women in certain roles in certain departments in Men’s football because ultimately, as my good friend PK would say, ‘They’re not made of wood lad!’ It’s a recipe for disaster.”

  • What did Joey Barton Tweet?

Barton’s tweeted: “Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious.

“It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently.

“The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see.

“I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena.”

  • Joey Barton slammed by Laura Woods

Joey Barton has been slammed by TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods over his comments about female pundits.

The controversial star’s comments have received a huge backlash after the former Bristol Rovers boss said he does not think women pundits should be allowed to comment on the men’s game.
