Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville’s awful pre-season relegation predictions re-emerge leaving Sky Sports pair red-faced

GARY NEVILLE and Jamie Carragher have been left red-faced over their shocking Premier League relegation predictions.

The pundits shared their thoughts ahead of the 2022-23 season on who they believed would finish in the bottom three.

And the pair could be incorrect with all three of their picks, with already relegated Southampton tipped by neither Neville nor Carragher.

Instead, Neville predicted the three teams promoted from the Championship last season – Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest – to go down.

Fulham suffered relegation in their previous two Prem seasons, 2018-19 and 2020-21, but are on course to finish in the top ten this time around.

While Bournemouth, who Carragher also thought would not avoid the drop, are already safe and could break the 40-point barrier.

Nottingham Forest are still in relegation danger but have a three-point cushion to 18th-placed Leeds with two games left to play.

One more win against Arsenal or Crystal Palace would likely see them safe and defy Carragher and Neville, both of whom thought Steve Cooper’s side would spend only one season in the top flight.

Speaking on The Overlap in August, Neville said: “I’m going to go with the three that came up going straight back down.

“The reason I say that is the inequality in terms of the actual money, is pushing it more that way [down] all the time.”

Carragher added: “So, Bournemouth, Brentford and I’ve said I want Forest to stay up and I think in terms of Marco Silva.

“I think he’ll make it difficult for teams… I’m going to go – even though I don’t want them to go down – I think Fulham might stay up and it’ll be Forest, Bournemouth and Brentford.”

Carragher pick Brentford, like Fulham, are also in the top half of the table and have even been flirting with a push for a European place.
