Maddison, 26, has been in blistering form for Spurs this season, being named August’s Premier League Player of the Month.

But fans poked fun at him tonight after a video of him struggling to navigate a water bottle circulated online.

The attacking midfielder opened his mouth and squeezed the bottle, expecting water to squirt into his mouth.

He then looked confused as nothing seemed to be coming out.

It turned out, however, that he’d been holding the bottle the wrong way around — spraying water onto the floor.

Channel 4 presenter Jules Breach showed the footage on air, joking: “Sorry but he clearly doesn’t know how to use a water bottle.”

Pundit Jill Scott then added: “Thankfully he’s good at football.”

Fans online also noticed Maddison’s little gaffe.

One joked: “Can anyone help James Maddison with the water bottle.”

To which a second replied: “Your midfield playmaker could never.”

And a third quipped: “His lost without Son holding his hand…”

And another added: “Sums up his night.”

Maddison later insisted that he was deliberately trying to spray a member of England’s coaching staff.

Joe Cole then quipped: “They stitch you up at Channel 4!”

Maddison endured another moment to forget on 25 minutes.

He cut inside onto his right foot before unleashing a shot… that embarrassingly swerved out for a throw-in.

The in-form ace was unlucky not to get an assist, however, when Ollie Watkins struck the post after being played in by Maddison’s brilliant pass.

Watkins later redeemed himself, prodding England into the lead from close range on 57 minutes.
