A NOW-deleted tweet has come back to haunt Jack Butland after his loan transfer to Manchester United was confirmed.
The ex-England international has moved to Old Trafford to provide cover and competition to David de Gea and Tom Heaton.
Butland joins until the end of the season from Crystal Palace, where he made just 17 appearances in just under three years.
Now, he joins United to play second fiddle to De Gea, something he vowed never to do.
A fan asked if he would sign for United and be “happy being number 2”.
Butland responded: “Would never move to be a number 2!”

The stopper was playing for Stoke at the time of his social media response, which has since been scrubbed.
He joined Palace from bet365 Stadium but failed to cement a place as No1.
Butland has also missed the entirety of this season through a finger injury but arrives at United fit to play.
He links up with former England team-mate Heaton and long-time United regular De Gea.

Butland said: “This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent.
“I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.
“I’ve played against David De Gea and represented England alongside Tom Heaton; they are top-class keepers, and I am relishing the opportunity to compete alongside and support them as team-mates.
“There is a lot that this group can achieve this season and I’m excited to play my part in helping everyone to reach these ambitions.”
