Hollywood legend lays into David Moyes’ West Ham tactics after ‘diabolical, depressing season’

A HOLLYWOOD legend has slammed David Moyes’ West Ham tactics after a “diabolical, depressing season.”

That’s despite the Scot leading his side to the verge of Europa Conference League glory.

The Hammers struggled to impress in the Premier League this term after last year’s impressive seventh-place finish.

Declan Rice and Co ended up finishing 14th after a tense relegation fight, finishing just six points above the drop.

And fans are hoping to see a major improvement next term, even though their talismanic midfield captain is likely to leave this summer.

However, things have been very different for the Hammers abroad.

They have enjoyed a fine European campaign in the Conference League.

And they are just one match away from getting their hands on the winners’ trophy – and a spot in next year’s Europa League – after setting up a tasty final against Fiorentina.

Even so, Hollywood actor and famous fan Ray Winstone reckons it’s mainly been a season to forget for supporters.

Despite West Ham’s success on the continent, their Premier League journey has been nothing short of “depressing.”

And Winstone insists Moyes’ tactics have not been up to scratch for a 38-game campaign.

He told talkSPORT: “I’m very happy [with Europe] but it’s been a diabolical season.

“You look at them and you think, the way they’re playing in the league, and then you see them in Europe…

“We’ve actually got a very good side but tactically it’s been wrong in the Premier League.

“It’s a bright light in a very depressing season. I think at the beginning of the season we had [too many] new players come in.

“This happened at Chelsea as well, we brought too many players in too quickly.”

Winstone also hit out at Uefa for allocating the Conference League final to Prague’s Eden Arena — which holds just 20,000 fans.

West Ham were only given 5,780 of the available tickets.

And Winstone added: “I was supposed to go but it all went pear shaped.

“It’s up in the air a little bit at the moment, whether I go or not is another thing but I shall be watching it.”
