‘Gifted footballer’ Josh Lloyd Roberts, 19, dies in horror crash as devastated friends share emotional tributes


TRIBUTES have been paid to a “gifted footballer” who died in a horror crash last week.

Josh Lloyd Roberts, 19, was remembered as a “popular lad” by friends and teammates on social media.

Josh, from Caernarfon, Wales, died in a light night crash in the nearby village of Caeathro on Friday, friends confirmed.

He was known to loved ones as a devoted fan of his local football club and the Welsh national team, as well as an active and talented player.

Former Caernarfon Town player Nathan Craig paid tribute to the youngster, saying: “I can’t believe it. Rest in peace mate.”

Cardiff Met FC added: “As a club we were devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Josh Roberts who was part of our BUCS squad last season.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to his friends and family at this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Caernarfon Town fan account @CofiArmy said on Saturday: “Awful news.

“One of our young supporters was tragically taken from us last night, one of the Cofi Youths for years and a staunch supporter of his hometown.

“[We] can’t even imagine the pain his parents are going through, thoughts with the family. R.I.P Josh.”

Condolences were also offered on Twitter by Noel Mooney, the chief executive of the Welsh FA, who confirmed that the association will mark Josh’s passing during Wales’ next game.

It is thought that players will offer a minute’s applause in the 19th minute of the upcoming match against Armenia on June 16.
