That year, after battling past England in the semi-final and leaving Gazza in tears, West Germany beat Argentina 1-0.

Our man’s late penalty sealed the win to send the Germans wild.

The former left-back won 86 caps for his country and is still regarded as a national hero to this day.

The international icon also managed Kaiserslautern and SpVgg Unterhaching before a brief spell as Stuttgart No2.

But many could barely make him out as he was spotted doing personalised birthday messages for supporters recently.

Now aged 62, the player’s long flowing hair is gone – replaced by a shorter, smarter look.

The ex-Bundesliga star also sports a pair of glasses 25 years on from hanging up his boots.

Most-recently, he made headlines after giving his followers much more than they bargained for with one of his messages.

And that’s because his topless wife interrupted his message giving viewers much more than they’d bargained for.

The World Cup hero in question? Andreas Brehme.

Brehme started off his recent video by facing the camera directly and wishing the lucky recipient many happy returns.

But the icon was disturbed by a noise coming from his right.

As he turned to look, the camera followed to reveal his half-naked partner entering the room.

Brehme quickly panned the camera away before quickly shaking it off.

But somehow the video ended up being sent to the wider world, clocking up millions of views in the process.

Brehme and partner Susanna Schaeder, 56, both managed to see the funny side.

Brehme told Bild: “We only realised it when more and more friends called. I have no idea why this is coming up now.

“Someone must have posted it. I didn’t even realise that I had sent it at the time.

“Now the whole world knows what a great wife I have! Shouldn’t have happened, but I can laugh at myself. In future I’d better let Susanne film.”

Susanne added: “That was last summer on vacation at Lake Garda. But what’s up? So you can see me changing on the beach. Or in the sauna.

“We laugh about it and I tease Andy, my social media expert.”
