DWIGHT YORKE has revealed who he believes can take the reins off England’s star man Harry Kane.
The former Manchester United and Aston Villa goal-scorer has said he thinks that Ollie Watkins could be the man to replace Kane as England’s first choice striker.
Yorke told Match.Centre that Watkins has what it takes to be the main man for the Three Lions, but admitted the 27-year-old has a lot of work to do first.
He said: “I think he’ll probably have one eye on putting himself in line to be Harry Kane’s successor as England’s first choice striker, but it’s important that he doesn’t get ahead of himself.
“He’ll want to establish himself as the main man at Villa first and once he’s done that, his next focus will be on his position in the England squad.”
The former Trinidad and Tobago striker went on to say: “You have to be doing it week on week out for your club, and once he is doing that, England will come calling.

“He just has to focus on Villa at the moment, and if he can bring consistency to his game then I think he’s got every chance of being England’s first choice striker in three years’ time.”
Watkins managed 15 goals and seven assists for Villa in the Premier League last season which was his highest return in the division.
The former Brentford striker has been capped seven times for England, but hasn’t been part of Gareth Southgate’s squad since March 2022.
He will have a lot to do if he’s to knock Kane off his perch with the Spurs star smashing the England all-time international scoring record this season.

The 29-year-old has now scored an impressive 58 goals for his country in just 84 games.
Watkins will also have to battle against the likes of Callum Wilson, Marcus Rashford and Ivan Toney, who have all been preferred by Southgate when fit and available.
