HANNIBAL MEJBRI is set to be handed an “important role” by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, it’s been claimed.
The Red Devils signed the Tunisia international from Monaco back in 2019 but he’s yet to establish himself in the first team.
Mejbri, 20, spent last season on loan with Championship outfit Birmingham City and flourished at St Andrews.
The midfielder was expected to be sent back out on loan again before the transfer window closed yesterday and was the subject of several offers.
SunSport understands Mejbri turned down multiple moves in order to fight for his place in the starting XI.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has given Mejbri reassurances over playing time at Old Trafford.

They claim the Dutchman told Mejbri he’d be handed “an important role” if he decided against leaving the club.
Mejbri has only made three appearances for United since upping sticks from Monaco’s academy four years ago.
He played a whopping 38 games for Birmingham last season and reminded Ten Hag and United fans of his talents by scoring a stunning free kick against West Brom in February.
Mejbri said: “There was no message [to shoot for the free-kick], the only message was in my head.

“I saw the goalkeeper was too high so I acted like I was going to cross so I shot.”
He added: “We are a big family. When someone needs help, we are always there.
“When things get hard, we stick together. I’m sure he (Erik ten Hag) has Sky.
“But I just need to focus until the end of the season and we will see what happens in the summer.”
Manchester United will be back in action on Sunday, travelling to the Emirates to take on Arsenal.
