Five times Ten Hag brutally punished wayward Man Utd stars as he’s set to swing hammer following 7-0 embarrassment

MANCHESTER UNITED players are set to be brutally punished by Erik ten Hag after their 7-0 hammering against Liverpool.

The Red Devils collapsed in the second-half and their no-nonsense manager fumed after the game.

Ten Hag used words like “unprofessional” and “unacceptable” to describe his team’s performance as the club suffered its heaviest defeat in 91 years.

He said: “I am really disappointed and angry for our fans, we let them down. As a squad and a team we cannot allow this.

“I saw 11 individuals losing their heads. That is not Manchester United, we have higher standards.

“It is really unprofessional. When you don’t keep the standards you see what can happen.

“I said in the dressing room it is unacceptable. It is only one game but the defeat is unacceptable for our fans, especially against Liverpool.

“It was really undisciplined.

“You can have set backs but what cannot happen is you don’t stick together, you have to do your job.”

Ten Hag is set to demand a reaction from his players and he began the response by arriving at Carrington at 7am on Monday morning.

The players were punished, having to report to training early as the inquest began.

This is not the first time Ten Hag has come down hard on the squad, here are five other times he threw the book at Man Utd stars.

Brentford 13km run

In just his second game in charge, United suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

The fuming boss made his players undergo an extra practice session that involved them running 13km (8.5 miles) in 33C heat.

Ten Hag chose the distance because Brentford stars had run a total of 13km more than United during the match.

Interestingly, United reportedly ran 99.01km against Liverpool, the lowest since the humiliation by the Bees.

Garnacho’s pre-season telling off

Alejandro Garnacho almost blew his Man Utd career by turning up late for team meetings during pre-season.

The winger was taken on the international tour to Thailand, but he did not play after twice turning up late for team meetings.

Garnacho’s behaviour has improved and he has netted five goals this campaign with him also set to earn a new contract.

He has even been described as a “rascal” by a former coach.

Ten Hag said: “The start of the season was difficult for him. I was not happy with him, but the last weeks I was happy with him – a better attitude, more resilience, more determination.

“Young kids have to grow and to raise their personality. They have to know what the laws and demands are in top football. You have to fulfil every day the high standards.”

Ronaldo dropped

Cristiano Ronaldo was axed by Ten Hag after he refused to come off the bench against Tottenham.

The Portuguese hero stormed down the tunnel and left during the game.

Ten Hag punished Ronaldo, demoting him to train with United’s Under 21-team and he left him out the squad for the next match versus Chelsea.

Ronaldo (again) after interview

Ronaldo was dropped after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, as he slammed the club from top to bottom and claimed he wasn’t respected by Ten Hag.

He never played for the club again as Man Utd terminated his contract.

A defiant Ten Hag sternly said he didn’t lose a wink of sleep over kicking Ronaldo out and insisted without tough rules a mess would be created.
