Ex-Chelsea star Morata’s wife out of intensive care after suffering ‘complications’ giving birth to their fourth child

ALVARO Morata confirmed just after midday today that his wife was out of intensive care, admitting the last few days had been the “worst” of his life.

He revealed the positive update along a photo of Alice Campello holding their daughter Bella in her arms as she lay in a hospital bed with her eyes closed.

The footballer said: “Alice has left intensive care and is in a room doing much better and recovering with Bella.

“I am still coming to terms with what happened.

“Thank you Alice for teaching me a lesson once again. You are without doubt a fighter and an example for me.

“These have definitely been the worst days of my life but I’m fortunate to have you in it.

“You’re the best thing that has happened to me and my life without you would have no meaning.

“Thank you to everyone who has been close to us and once again thank you to everyone at the University Hospital of Navarra for their delicacy and treatment.”

Morata, who had a troubled spell at Stamford Bridge after moving to Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2017 for £60 million, revealed the health drama as he announced the birth of the couple’s first daughter Bella and posted adorable photos of her sleeping in pink and white pyjamas.

On Tuesday evening, the 30-year-old Spanish international revealed that his wife had been transferred to intensive care.

He said: “Bella was born on the 9th and she is wonderful.

“Unfortunately, after the delivery went very well, the mother has started to have complications that have scared us a lot.

“Right now she is in the intensive care unit of the University Hospital of Navarra in Madrid where she is being cared for by the best doctors and little by little she is recovering very well… she is very strong.”

An identical message appeared on model-turned-businesswoman Alice’s Instagram.

Morata was left red-faced last month after his wife pretended her waters had broken.

She showed the moment she pranked the Atletico de Madrid frontman, spraying a bottle of water through her jogging bottoms and leaving a puddle on the floor while stood in the hallway before calling for her husband as he watched TV in the next room.

The practical joke ended with her bursting into laugher after he expressed his concern.

The couple have twins, four-year-old Alessandro and Leandro, and a younger boy called Edoardo who is two.

Alice was alone with the twins and a nanny when armed intruders broke into the family home north of Madrid in June 2019 and confronted her when Morata was thousands of miles away in the Faroe Islands for a Spain Euro 2020 qualifier.

No-one was hurt in the drama but the Italian beauty admitted afterwards: “I’m still upset and I think I’ll be afraid for a long time to come.

“I think this is one of those things that are not easily forgotten, one of those things that makes you realize how much love and life is worth.”

Venice-born Alice, 27, moved to Madrid in the summer of 2016 ahead of his transfer to Chelsea when he left Juventus after his loan deal with the Italian side ended.

The couple have moved around a lot since getting married, with Morata playing for Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus

The footballer proposed to his wife after being called on stage during a magic show.

He went down on bended knee as magician Antonio Diaz turned Alice away from Morata and pretended he was going to perform a trick on her.

Onlookers at the packed Rialto theatre in Madrid applauded the touching moment before recording it on their mobile phones.

Last July Alice revealed her fourth pregnancy was not going that smoothly saying: “The little girl is giving me a hard time of things. I hope she’ll be good when she’s born.”
