And having already played alongside Adebayor at the Etihad, Richards revealed he nearly had the ex-Arsenal man on his side at Villa Park too.

Speaking to the Filthyfellas podcast, Richards recalled: “We had Adebayor there at the training ground as well, you know.

“Adebayor was there, he signed with his shirt and everything.

“I swear, he came to the training ground [and] he took his picture in the Villa shirt.”

However, Adebayor called off the deal at the last minute.

Richards revealed: “Apparently he had a dream or something. He was talking about dreams before.

“This is real talk I’m not lying. He said he had a dream or he had some sort of…”

Richards was then asked: “Vision?”

To which he replied: “Yes! It was a vision to say to ‘don’t sign’.”

Richards was discussing the summer he joined Villa in 2015, meaning Adebayor would have been playing for Tottenham at the time.

In the end Adebayor went on to join Crystal Palace in January of 2016, and it proved to be a wise move as Villa were relegated that season after finishing bottom of the Premier League.

Adebayor only retired from playing in March of this year following a spell with Semassi in his native Togo.
