FORMER Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has heaped praise on his former side following their 3-0 win over Leicester City.
The Bulgarian was a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford and spent four years with the club winning the Premier League title twice.
Erik Ten Hag’s men sit third in the table, five points behind leaders Arsenal having played a game more, and are well poised to make it a three horse race for the title.
Former striker Berbatov took to Instagram after United’s 3-0 win over Leicester and was full of praise for his former side and some individuals in particular.
The Bulgarian hailed goalkeeper David De Gea for his performance having made crucial saves to deny Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho opening the scoring in the first half.
Berbatov said: “De Gea is irreplaceable. These two saves today 100 per cent goal and he was there like Spiderman, guarding the goal and not letting the opposition score.”
He added: “He is unbelievable at the moment and then the score stay nil-nil, it is more easy for the whole team to play. When it’s two-nil down, then the pressure is on even more.”
The Spanish shot stopper equalled Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheet record for the club with his shut out against the Foxes, taking him level with the legendary Dane on 180.
The 42-year-old was also full of praise for January loan signing Wout Weghorst who is yet to score for the club in the Premier League.
The former striker said: “He doesn’t score much but the work rate is unbelievable, he is putting players into play, he frees spaces for his teammates, he is holding the ball well.”

He continued: “Let me tell you something, if some of the holding midfield players get injured, he can easily play in that position.”

He simply said: “He is on another level.”
