The Manchester United man netted a highly controversial equaliser as the Red Devils came from 1-0 down to beat rivals City 2-1.

Fernandes fired home after taking the ball off the feet of Marcus Rashford following a Casemiro pass.

Rashford, who did not touch the ball at any point, was in an offside position.

City argued Rashford interfered in the play and should have been flagged for offside, with Rashford and Fernandes barely able to hold in smiles as they were quizzed about the strike after the game.

Cech took to Twitter after the goal went in, hitting out at football’s lawmakers.

He wrote: “The first United goal just proved the people who make the rules don’t understand the game.”

In Law 11 of The FA’s rules, which details offside, section two says: “Making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball.”

City manager Pep Guardiola also didn’t think the goal should have been given.

He told BT Sport after the game: “Rashford was offside, he distracted our keeper and defenders.”

Jack Grealish had originally headed City in front from a Kevin De Bruyne cross.

United hit back through Fernandes’ controversial effort, before Rashford netted the winner eight minutes from time.
