JAMES MADDISON had a moment to forget during the first half of England’s clash with Australia this evening.
And the Tottenham star’s gaffe had Channel 4 commentator Dion Dublin in stitches.
Maddison, 26, started in a midfield trio alongside Jordan Henderson and Conor Gallagher.
On 25 minutes he found a yard of space on the edge of the box.
He unleashed a shot, with 90,000 within Wembley holding their breath.
But they needn’t have got excited, with Maddison spooning his effort out for a throw-in,

The midfielder’s shot was so poor that it even prompted laughter from Dion Dublin.
It turned out that Maddison was offside anyway, but many fans were unforgiving.
One joked: “Good effort from Maddison there. Tested the goalkeeper.
The one on the bench I mean.”
While an Arsenal fan added: “That Maddison shot was so bad.”

A third social media user joked: “James Maddison that wasn’t very main man at the Sunday roast of you.”
And a fourth tweeted: “Maddison must have been looking at another goal in another stadium.”

Shortly after his embarrassing miss, Maddison slid Ollie Watkins through on goal with a brilliant pass.
Unfortunately for the Three Lions, the Aston Villa star could somehow only hit the post after skipping past ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
