Burnley 0-1 Man Utd LIVE RESULT: Bruno Fernandes STUNNER seals United victory after Jonny Evans header disallowed

MANCHESTER UNITED picked up a huge three points with a 1-0 win at Burnley.

Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game with a stunning volley just before half-time.

Jonny Evans – making his first United start since 2015 – thought he had headed the visitors in front, but his goal was disallowed after a VAR check involving Rasmus Hojlund.

    That’s all from Turf Moor

The reports of Manchester United’s death have been greatly exaggerated.

The Red Devils may not have been at their best at Turf Moor this Saturday evening, but they demonstrated determination, desire and belief as they gritted their way to a 1-0 victory.

And in Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning volley, they produced one of the goals of the month. Bottom-of-the-table Burnley will rue their lack of such cutting edge.

There will be no time to dwell on successes and failures, however, with both sides back in action on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup.

Thanks for joining us and goodnight.

    Smells like team spirit

After a week in which the morale inside the Manchester United dressing room has been questioned, Erik ten Hag acknowledged a committed performance from all of his players.

The Dutch coach insisted that his side did everything that was asked of them and more as they battled their way to a win that ends the recent poor run at form.

Team spirit was big. You saw a team defending with 11, following the rules and being disciplined. It will give us confidence, but it is only one win.

  • United’s captain fantastic the difference

A superbly-taken goal by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was the difference at Turf Moor as the Red Devils edged past Lancashire neighbours Burnley.

The Portuguese ace has now either scored or assisted a goal against 22 of the 24 clubs he’s faced in the Premier League.

The only clubs yet to suffer at the feet of Bruno are Sheffield United (3 games) and Norwich City (2 games).

Erik ten Hag’s team take on the Blades at Bramall Lane on October 21.

  • 1-0 to the Manchester United?

Tonight’s victory was Manchester United’s 144th 1-0 success in the Premier League.

The Red Devils winning 1-0 is now the joint-most common result in the competition’s history level with both Everton and Tottenham drawing games 1-1.

Evans admits to dream come true

Released by Leicester in the summer, Jonny Evans surely would not have been anticipating a reunion at Manchester United.

But here he is at 35, making his 200th appearance for the Red Devils, keeping clean sheets, having goals disallowed and setting up the only goal of the game for your captain with a wonder assist.

We’ve had a tough couple of games but we showed good spirit tonight. If you want to be successful and win games then you have to keep clean sheets. I was disappointed not to see out the game, but it was just as good to see Andre [Onana] catch that one at the end. It was a great moment for me personally, and to be back out here in front of these fans is a dream come true.

  • Match stats from Turf Moor

Burnley made 633 passes against Manchester United with 558 of them being successful – both are the highest they’ve ever recorded in a Premier League match.

    They also lost 1-0.

  • Full time – Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

After a difficult week, Manchester United are back on track with a desperately-needed three points.

The only goal of the game was scored brilliantly – beautifully – by Bruno Fernandes, but the clean sheet will mean almost as much to Erik ten Hag.

Burnley will count themselves unfortunate, but the Clarets were unable to progress their pretty play to opportunities in the final third.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd – Beyer yellow card

90+2. For the first time this evening, Burnley are really struggling to get the ball back off Manchester United.

Those frustrations creep in, and present themselves fully when Jordan Beyer commits an unnecessary foul.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    90. A brilliantly-disguised reverse pass from Fernandes offers Hojlund the chance to seal the three points.

The Dane gets his strike away, but it doesn’t get far due to a superb block from Roberts.

There will be four minutes of additional time played.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd – Man Utd substitution

    88. As Benson Manuel curls a long range effort high and wide, Erik ten Hag readies Sofyan Amrabat for his Manchester United debut.

The Moroccan takes over from Jonny Evans, and comes on with one job: to ensure United see this one out.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd – Burnley substitution

    86. A fifth and final change for the hosts,

Vincent Kompany has previously described Benson Manuel as a gamechanger, and he’ll have a few minutes to prove that he can do just that.

    Off goes Josh Brownhill.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    84. A chance for Rashford to seal the contest on the break.

The United forward does well to come in off the left, but doesn’t back himself when the shot first presents itself.

HIs eventual shot cannons into the recovering Cullen.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    82. Sander Berge gets head to an inswinging corner! Over!

I say his head, replays show that the attempt actually came off the midfielder’s shoulder.

A cleaner contact and surely he would be celebrating an equaliser.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd – Man Utd substitution

    81. Sergio Reguilon is unable to play any further part, and is replaced for the final stages by Raphael Varane.

I think the switch will see Victor Lindelof moving to left-back.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    80. Roberts and Mehji clash on the far side with the Welsh defender not impressed with the theatrical way in which the Manchester United midfielder went to ground following his challenge.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    79. Excellent change from Al-Dakhil, and not for the first time his evening.

The defender denies Rashford from latching on to a through ball from Hojlund, although – in truth – the pass from the striker was criminally underhit.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    77. Reguilon seems to have hurt his hamstring in his attempt to make things difficult for Bruun Larsen, but he’s playing on for now.

Burnley try to take advantage with a cross whipped in from the right and it takes an intervention from Lindelof to steer the ball behind for a corner.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    75. Almost an instant impact!

Bruun Larsen is the target as the Clarets go long, and only a heavy first touch denies the substitute a clear shot at goal.

However, United fail to clear their lines, and, following in, Rodriguez goes down under the clumsy challenge of Evans.

Tony Harrington says no penalty, but it was certainly worth asking the question.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd – Burnley treble substitution

    73. Three changes for the home side.

Vincent Kompany sends for refreshed reinforcements in attack.

Sander Berge, Jacob BNruun Larsen and Jay Rodriguez are on with Aaron Ramsey, Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho making way.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    71. Aaron Ramsey has looked very impressive for Burnley this evening, and showcases his ability again by twisting away from McTominay to win his side a free-kick.

I realise they have a buy-back clause, but Aston Villa’s decision to sell the youngster is curious to say the least.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    69. The first suggestions of groans from the home fans as the hosts nearly lose possession after a spell of non-threatening passing around the back four.

Ode for the days of Sean Dyche, Chris Wood and getting it in the mixer.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    67. Amdouni and Ramsey try to ahead of their markers inside the area as Burnley break down the right.

Their efforts, ultimately, are in vain as Tresor fails to beat the first man with his lifted cross.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    65. Rashford is snuffed out as he tries to make room to get a shot away inside the penalty, but he can’t find a way past Beyer.

The Manchester United forward is a player that looks a pale imitation of the player that struck 30 goals in all competitions last season.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    63. It’s all gone a little flat.

Suddenly, it looks like a fixture between two teams short on confidence.

  • Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

    61. Inside the final half hour, and is it time for Vincent Kompany to ring the changes?

The Belgian boss does have Jay Rodriguez on his bench, and he was on target the last time Burnley beat United back in January 2020.
