Brentford vs Tottenham kick-off DELAYED due to ‘problem with sanitation’

KICK-OFF between Brentford and Tottenham was delayed due to a “problem with sanitation”.

Ange Postecoglou was set to begin his first game as a Premier League boss at 2pm but fans, players and the managers were left awkwardly waiting.

The bizarre reason behind the delay was because there was no water at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.

This therefore presented a safety hazard.

Eventually, the match did begin six minutes late.

However, when things did kick-off, there was still no water in the stadium.

But the referee decided it was the correct decision to get the match going in the hope the issue would soon be rectified.

And ten minutes into the contest, water was flowing back around the stadium.

Fans shared their thoughts on the chaos, one said: “Toilets that won’t flush. No running water. Tills that won’t work at the kiosks. VAR sucking the life out of the game. Sub standard referring. Welcome back to the Premier League.”

Another joked: “Football is played on grass. This is not water polo.”

The controversy did not end there though, as Cristian Romero scored to put Spurs ahead after 11 minutes, only for him to be immediately subbed off because of a head injury.

Romero was left fuming as he trudged down the tunnel, believing he was okay to continue.

Brentford were then awarded a penalty after VAR checked a foul by Heung-min Son on Mathias Jensen.

Bryan Mbeumo then stepped up and scored to make it 1-1.

The kick-off delay was the second time this weekend that a Premier League game was delayed after a ticketing issue caused Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest to be pushed back.

There was a 30 minutes delay due to thousands being unable to get into the Emirates Stadium with digital tickets not working.
