Arsenal ‘make N’Golo Kante free transfer enquiry’ as representative reveals Chelsea star’s likely decision

ARSENAL have allegedly made an enquiry about signing N’Golo Kante.

The French midfielder, 32, made his first Premier League start since August last week for Chelsea in the goalless draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Despite an impressive return from injury, interim boss Frank Lampard then caused a stir when he left the star out of the team for last weekend’s defeat at Wolves.

Kante has been recalled to the side for Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash at Real Madrid tonight.

His future, however, has been back in the headlines ahead of the showdown with the LaLiga giants.

The former Leicester City ace will become a free agent this summer when his current deal expires in June.

We have reported previously how he looks set to pen a new two-year extension to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Le Parisien have now claimed that a source from the player’s camp has told them that now looks like the likely scenario.

But they have also dropped a transfer bombshell by claiming that Chelsea’s bitter rivals Arsenal are also attempting to hijack those plans and snatch him on a freebie.

The Kante representative was quoted as saying: “N’Golo would like to stay in London, where he has his habits.

“I think he’ll extend his deal at Chelsea before going to the Middle-East in two or three years.”

And then they added: “Arsenal have also made an enquiry.”

Mikel Arteta was linked with a move for the ace last summer but that transfer failed to materialise.

Now the Premier League leaders could be eyeing up another swoop to bolster their engine room ahead of their return to the Champions League.
