He caught Arsenal’s eye previously with his performances and the Gunners considered a summer move for the midfielder.

The club have continued to monitor Zubimendi and could be ready to make a bid when the transfer window re-opens, claim Football.London.

The Spain international penned a new contract last year which ties him down at Sociedad until 2027.

But it is understood he has a release clause worth £52m, which Arsenal could activate.

Barcelona are reported to have a long-term interest in Zubimendi and could rival a Gunners bid.

While Bayern Munich are also monitoring the 24-year-old’s position ahead of a potential transfer.

Mikel Arteta and director of football Edu could decide to strengthen the midfield following the injury to Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international has been plagued by injury for much of his Arsenal spell, and is now unavailable for the remainder of the calendar year due to a thigh injury.
