Arsenal legend Thierry Henry ‘joined by former Juventus star Andrea Pirlo’ in battle to become next Belgium manager

THIERRY HENRY and Andrea Pirlo are in the running to become the next Belgium manager, according to reports.

Martinez took charge of three tournaments, but never got past the semi-finals despite having a Golden Generation.

And their winless campaign in Qatar proved the end for the ex-Everton boss, who confirmed his exit moments after Belgium crashed out.

They’re now looking for a new manager and HLN believe two legendary players are currently in the race.

The report states that Henry has “expressed his interest” in the role, days after saying he would be willing to take a pay cut to replace Martinez.

His only experiences are a brief stint with Monaco and a 14-month spell in the MLS with Montreal Impact.

But Henry is the current assistant manager of Belgium and remains in the position despite Martinez’s departure.

He’s enjoying his second spell in the role after leaving back in 2018 to become a manager.

And he would have the backing of some of the squad with Toby Alderweireld and Romelu Lukaku believing that he would be the “ultimate solution”.

But Pirlo is also interested in the job as he looks to take a giant step in his mangaerial career.

The ex-Italy star is currently in charge of Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk.

His only other job was managing Juventus two years ago, where he won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in 2020-21, but was sacked and replaced by Massimiliano Allegri after the Old Lady finished fourth.
